LEGAL EXPERIENCE:  Joseph S. Berman is presently an equity partner focusing on commercial litigation at Looney & Grossman, LLP in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to this, Berman was a founding partner of a six-lawyer litigation firm, Berman & Dowell in Boston from February 1998 to August 2007. He was an associate in the litigation department at Posternak, Blankstein & Lund in Boston from December 1993 to February 1998, an associate at Coghill & Goodspeed in Denver, Colorado, and a law clerk for Hon. Richard Matsch, U.S. District Court, Denver, CO from January 1990 to December 1990.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND ASSOCIATIONS: Mr. Berman has bar admissions in Massachusetts and Colorado. He is a member of the New England Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution; the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers; a regional and national board member of the Anti-Defamation League; and a board member of Land’s Sake Farm, a community farm in his hometown of Weston, Massachusetts. He is also a member of the American, Massachusetts, and Boston Bar Associations, where he formerly chaired the Insurance Law Committee.

Mr. Berman has extensive experience handling matters including legal malpractice, insurance coverage, employment and commercial litigation, including contract actions; corporate disputes; trade secrets; and real estate/construction matters.

Joe has substantial experience representing lawyers in disciplinary proceedings before the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers. He lectures and writes in the area of professional liability, ethics, and civil litigation. He also counsels clients in ethical matters, including cases involving conflicts of interest, client funds, and the attorney-client privilege.  He is a trained and qualified mediator and arbitrator and has participated in hundreds of ADR processes.
